2015 Aerification: Successful. 4
direction Verticut and 2 direction Aerification. We are increasing our
fertilizer regimen to aid in recovery, however, it will still take a good 20
days to get back to decent putting surfaces.
·
Driving Range Tee Rotation: Major Success
for St Ives and turf quality. In my opinion best the range has been in my 6
years as Superintendent.
·
Bunker Renovation: We have secured
Medalist Golf to begin construction on Nov 1, 2015. We are still finalizing which
holes will be addressed in year 1 with the 50k allocated.
·
Bunker liner: The exposed bunker liner in the
“original” Fazio style bunkers is down right awful. It has become too big of a
job for our staff to “maintain” repairing fabric on an as needed basis. I am
putting numbers together to add 3” of sand in all bunkers this winter. However,
this will cost a fair amount of money that could be put towards renovating
bunkers. Once my numbers are finalized we can determine to add sand or increase
renovation.
·
Weak areas on greens: These areas will recover as we recover from
aerification. We have also implemented new maintenance practices in these areas
to aid in protecting ourselves from similar conditions next spring. Contrary to
popular belief, Ultradwarf Bermuda grass can have issues just like bentgrass.
We still have some shade issues on a few of our greens and we are scheduling to
have more trees removed before fall. Traffic also is damaging to the greens
during the winter months and we will implement strategies to reduce the amount
of wear on our edges.
·
Tight Fairways: We have received a lot of
comments about mowing the fairways too “low”. The HOC is actually (.475) which
is .025” below ½”.
·
Cartpath Repairs: Capital has been budgeted for path repair, I am coordinating with our contractor on a late July
– Mid August start date.
